Annoying Public Speaking Habits

Annoying Public Speaking Habits

“Speak clearly, if you speak at all; carve every word before you let it fall.” - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Here are some annoying public speaking habits. They can be deal breakers, so avoid these annoying habits at all costs!

*Voice Trailing Off - Many speakers let their voices trail off at the end of every sentence. The audience can hear the first part of their sentence, but they have no idea what pearls of wisdom might be lost in the whispers at the end.

*Looking Down - Sometimes this speaker will deliver complete sentences inaudibly while looking down — obviously not interested at that moment in engaging the audience.

*Mumbling - Mumbling is not cool. Inexperienced speakers will often speak at conversation level, not giving any thought or consideration to the people in the back of the room. Recently, I sat in on a panel discussion at a workshop. The panelists chose to sit instead of stand to address the standing-room-only crowd, which I thought was rude. And one man, whenever it was his turn to speak, would rest his elbows on the table and fold his hands in front of his mouth during the entire time that he was speaking.

*Reading - Some speakers are not good readers. If you are not skilled at reading something out loud, don’t do it while speaking. Especially avoid doing this secretly. In other words, if you plan to deliver your speech by reading all or part of it, and you do not have good out loud reading skills, forget it.

*Not keeping everyone involved - Inexperienced or thoughtless speakers leave members of the audience out. When an audience member asks a question, it is rarely heard in the back of the room. I’ve seen many expert speakers respond to the question by engaging in a one-on-one conversation with this person while the rest of the audience is left wondering. Speakers, I urge you to repeat the question so everyone is on the same page. And then respond to the question so that everyone in the room can hear it.

*Sitting Down - Some speakers choose to sit down on the job. In a very small, intimate group or when the audience is sitting in a circle of chairs or on the floor, for example, speaking while seated is generally okay. But if you have a room containing six rows of chairs or more, you really should express respect for those in the back of the room by standing so that you can be seen as well as heard.

*Filler Words - Even some professional speakers still use too many filler words. It takes practice, but you can rid your vocabulary (especially while speaking in public) of those filler words like, uh, ah, er. Also avoid connecting sentences by overusing “and.”

*Overshooting Time Allotment - Many speakers have trouble staying within the time allotment. Most programs or presentations are carefully organized. Each segment is designed to fit into a specific time slot. I’ve seen speakers completely disregard their time constraints and foul up the entire evening’s program. Not cool.

Ecommerce And The Power Of Free

Ecommerce And The Power Of Free

There is a powerful word in marketing. This word is challenging the thinking of many who have been in business for a while. This word strikes fear in the heart of many business owners because it just doesn’t seem possible.

That marketing word in question is – FREE.

Watch television and you will see that cell phone companies will routinely give their phones away for free. Banks offer free snacks when you drop by for a visit and a free gift when you sign up for an account.

Websites offer free services to anyone who visits their site. Music download companies offer free downloads with a membership.

Wikipedia offers free information. The web itself is an incredibly large global entitlement program. Customers have come to expect free stuff. If you don’t have it they will just keep looking for the all-important FREE until they find it.

Honestly the expectation for free products, services or downloads is huge. The role of the Internet has made this a reality.

How does a business cope? After all, logic itself dictates that nothing is free. Someone has to pay for free information. Someone has to pay for free products, and downloads have value.

The truth is websites have had to evaluate how they do business in the 21st century.

If the expectation of the consumer is that they can always find a free phone for cell service does it make sense to try to sell a phone to a customer who knows they can find one for free at another store? The reality is the cost of the phone will be factored into the obligatory service plan. The customer is happy with their free phone and the business recoups their costs over the life of the cell phone plan. Both are happy.

In an online environment free downloads or information can be offset by banner ads, PPC ads or sponsor listings.

Businesses are increasingly looking to freelance writers to supply fresh content for their sites. So in the end the burden of information sharing costs the business owner money. However this can be offset either by advertising or as a means to develop improved marketing efforts.

Free doesn’t have to be a dirty word in business, it simply means that the business owner has to develop creative ways to pay for what is given away. Sometimes this cost is actually taken care of by the consumer or by advertisers who believe that the free item will bring increasing foot traffic to your site and ultimately to their site.

In an online environment this concept is what I like to call Trust Marketing. I’ve talked about it in other articles, but the point is by providing high quality at no cost you leave multiple choices in the hands of your site visitor and they like the feeling of empowerment.

The prevailing premise is that your good will gesture translates into trust. That trust is then transformed into a purchase.

The idea is to help potential customers see that even when no money is involved you will still choose to provide free tools or products to help your customer succeed.

You figure out how to pay for “FREE”. Your site visitor may learn to reward your generosity with a business proposition of his or her own. That is the beauty of trust marketing.

5 mistakes that may get your CV trashed

5 mistakes that may get your CV trashed

In the current situation, it is very necessary for people to know the mistakes than can cost them an interview call. In an article published on Rediff, Kshpira Singh highlighted the five most common errors. These are outlined below:

A cluttered CV

CVs where people simply put all possible information and expect recruiters to scroll through them to find out relevant details. The only destiny these CVs have is getting the 'delete' key pressed and landing up in the trash bins.

HR people get hundreds of applications for a single position. They don't have the time to sift through your CV and see if each candidate suits their purpose. So, it is your job to make your CV as user-friendly, so that they can find the information they are looking for in a single glance.

Grammatical and spelling mistakes

Grammatical errors and spelling mistakes not only look shabby, but they reveal a lot about one?s attitude. If a HR manager receives a business proposal with grammar and spelling mistakes, the first thing he would think is, "Is this person really serious about the business?"

Similarly, a CV with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes will suggest that he does not care enough for this opportunity, you are lazy and you do not have an eye for detail. Nobody wants to hire an employee with any of these characteristics. So it's a given that such CVs are headed to the rejected pile.

Past failures and/or health problems

Your CV is not the place for you to talk about past failures or health problems, so keep them off paper. Some people may argue that almost everybody has the sense not to write about failures and health problems on CVs and while I agree with them, it's been known to happen.
So this pointer is for those who do commit this mistake. Take a look at your CV again and if you have addressed any of these problems directly or indirectly, it is wise to edit them out.

Current or expected CTC

Many people have developed the habit of writing about their current salary or expected salary on a CV, as they assume that all prospective employers are going to ask about it, or that most job notifications require it. It is advised not to mention it on the CV, unless specifically asked to do so.

Vague/unclear contact details

Picture this situation -- you have a menu card from a nearby restaurant in front of you. You like the dishes they serve and the price is right too. You are impressed by the fact that they deliver within 10 minutes. You pick up the phone to make a call, but are not able to find the telephone number on the menu card. You look a second time, but you are still not able to find it. You're hungry and there's another menu card from another restaurant right in front of you, which looks equally good.

What will you do? Won't you immediately place an order with the restaurant that offers a number and ask them to send the food ASAP? Later, you may realise that there was a phone number on the first menu card, hidden somewhere in a corner, but the opportunity is gone now. You may land up in a similar situation if your contact details are not clear or not easy to find for employers. Some other things to note here are:

? Provide a phone number where potential employers can talk to you directly and don't have to go through your parents or friends.
? Keep the e-mail addresses formal - mostly a combination of your first and last name
? Keep the e-mail address small and uncomplicated to avoid any typing mistakes if employers decide to contact you online.

Writing a CV is not a difficult task. The best person to do it is you. The only thing you need is to analyse your candidature properly and present it well. You will need to draft and re-draft your CV many times before you are finally happy with it.

Learn How to Protect Your Computer

Learn How to Protect Your Computer

At some point you are going to need your computer repaired. Hardware and software issues will always happen at some point.

I’m sure you already new this but almost half of all computer repairs are actually the end users fault. That’s right it’s your fault. Close to half if not more of all computer repair jobs have to do with removing spyware or viruses from computers. If the person had protection in the first place they would not have to pay a few hundred bucks to get it repaired.

I already have Anti-Virus so I’m good

This is 100% false. In fact many people out there think that just because they have anti-virus software installed they are protected. End users need at least three things to be protected while on-line. If you are missing just one of them your system is at risk. Those three must haves are a good firewall a good anti-virus client and a lastly spyware protection. If you don’t have all three then at some point and time you will be infected with something.

The sad truth is most people out there want to save a buck. They go out and download a free anti-virus client and call it quits. I’m not knocking free software but there is not one free anti-virus client that can match the protection of most paid software. Yes they do work but for many you do not get live protection, it’s only after you are infected that the software kicks in and removes the threat. By that time it may be too late. Another misconception is not having to re-purchase your software. Every year you have to pay to re-new your client software. If not then you are leaving yourself open to all the latest threats.

For the most part people do have an anti-virus client installed and by default in XP and Vista you have a firewall. While the Vista firewall is decent the XP one is really lacking and you should not really on it. The one thing most people skip out on is spyware protection. Spyware is more prevalent on the net nowadays then viruses are. The reason is simple. Spyware is where these crocks can make a ton more money. Rather then just crashing your system, why not have a thousand pop-ups and push fake anti-virus software onto people? That’s why spyware has taken over as the leading threat online.

What can I do about It.?

This one is simple. Go out and pay the 3o bucks for an anti-spyware program. If you need virus protection and a firewall then add anther 20 bucks onto that and you’re good to go. It’s a very wise investment and the next time your co-worker complains about being infected you will be glad you did.

7 Easy Steps To Build Your own Computer

7 Easy Steps To Build Your own Computer

Building your own computer is easier today than ever before. Why settle for a PC that you pay to much for and does not have the flexibility of a custom build.

We have a step by step instructional that will help you in building your own computer.

* In order to build your computer you must have the parts. Parts you will need include motherboard, processor, heat sink, ram, power supply, case, hard drive, cd/dvd roms, and thermal paste. Some motherboards come with integrated sound, video, and Ethernet ports. I recommend reading your motherboard user manual to find the specific compatible parts that you will need for your endeavors.

* Installing the motherboard can be a daunting task if you don’t follow the motherboard user manual. It will guide you through all of the jumper settings and instruct you on screwing it into the case. One very important note to remember is use a grounding strap at all times when handling circuit cards and the motherboard! If this step is not followed you could potentially destroy them permanently.

* After the motherboard is installed you must install the motherboard components, you may want to start with the processor and heat sink. Again ground yourself before touching any of the components. Installing the processor is simple for most types of processors. (this applies to most types of processors) All you do is lift up the arm on the processor slot, line up the arrow on the processor with the slot and the push the arm back down. Installing the heat sink isn’t much more difficult. Spread a thin layer of thermal paste on the heat sink and snap it in on top of the processor. Each one snaps in different so refer to the manual for proper installation. Next comes the installing of the ram. It is the easiest step of the process. You open the snaps on the ram slots on the motherboard, line up the notches, and push it down. Too easy.

* The next step in the process is to put in the power supply. This is done by first screwing it into the case. Then you plug in the power cables into the motherboard. Usually it has a 20 pin connector and a 4 pin that plug straight into the motherboard. The other power connectors will be connected when the cd/dvd ROMs and hard drive are installed.

* In order to make your computer function properly you will need to install the hard drives and the cd/dvd drives precisely by the operator manual. Usually it is just screw them in and plug it up but that can sometimes differ. Depending on whether or not you are using IDE or Sata devices the power cables and data cables hook up differently.

* Now just about all of the hardware installation is complete. You just have to install any add in cards you may have. For example sound card, modem or maybe a video card. Pretty much all of these cards just push in. You line up the card with the empty slot and push in it. But remember if you are having problems refer to the user manual.

* We have just the last step left before your pc is up and running. That is giving it the software it needs to run. Installing the operating system is just click the next button. Literally while you are installing the os screens popup and you click next. For more detailed information refer to the operating system manual. It will give you a graphical representation for the installation. When you have finished installing the os you need the drivers for the system. A cd usually comes with the parts. After they are installed your pc should be up and running.

Tips To Improve Your Vehicle Performance

Tips To Improve Your Vehicle Performance

Here are some very good tips on improving your vehicle's Fuel Economy / Increase Fuel Efficiency / Mileage. With increasing fuel prices it is becoming more and more prudent to use them.

Use Your Gears Wisely

Driving in the highest gear possible without labouring the engine is a fuel-efficient way of driving. A vehicle travelling at 60kmph in third gear uses 25 percent more fuel than at the same speed in fifth gear

Drive Smoothly

Think ahead! By applying light throttle and avoiding heavy braking, you can reduce both fuel consumption and wear and tear. Try to predict traffic at junctions and when in queuing to avoid accelerating and then braking. Research suggests driving techniques can influence car fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent.

Switch off Your Engine

There are two schools of thought on this one. Switching your engine off for short periods of time can actually increase fuel consumption, as it requires more fuel to get the engine started. Also your catalytic converter will no longer be running at full temperature and so your car will be less efficient, increasing the amount of pollution you cause. However if you are
stopped for more than a few minutes then your car will simply burn less fuel with the engine stopped.

Drive off Promptly To Prevent Wasting Fuel

Don't leave your engine running when you first start up. Drive off straight away if you can, but drive gently until the engine has reached its normal operating temperature. This doesn't increase fuel efficiency as such, but it does mean your engine is switched on for less time.

Lighten Your Load

Think carefully about what you need on a journey. if you do not need something, do not pack it. Remove roof racks if not needed. The lighter the load, the lower the fuel consumption, and emissions, and the higher the fuel efficiency.

Tyres Effect Fuel Efficiency

It is estimated that about 50% of tyres on the road are under inflated. Aside from increasing the rate of wear, this wastes fuel and decreased your fuel efficiency. Check your tyre pressures every fortnight. Worn tyres will also decrease fuel efficiency (and your safety!), so check the tread regularly. If you are replacing tyres then consider some of the newer 'Eco' tyres that are designed specifically to increase fuel efficiency.

Car Windows

Driving with your windows open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency, far more so than putting the air conditioning on when motorway driving. So in those hot summers(?) preferably keep the windows shut, and the air conditioning on if you want to keep cool. Of course the air conditioning
decreases fuel efficiency too, so try not to over use it.

Invest In A New Fuel Efficient Car

New cars come in all shapes and sizes, but it is possible to pick a new car that can greatly reduce your fuel bill, and your fuel emissions.

Size matters

Choose an economical car - small cars use far more fuel efficient and produce lower emissions than large cars. Drive the most fuel-efficient car that meets your needs. Compare models and classes. Even similarly sized cars can vary in fuel efficiency by up to 45%.

Consider diesel engines (with a particulate trap), and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fuelled cars - all have lower CO2 emissions than standard petrol cars.

Consider 'hybrid' vehicles - they combine a conventional engine with an electric motor and battery. These offer reduced fuel consumption and CO2 with potentially lower emissions of all pollutants.

Diesel Engines

If your going to buy a diesel, ensure it is a new 'common rail' type, as these are approximately 10% more efficient than older diesels. also replace (or clean if applicable) air cleaner elements as often as is required by your vehicles servicing schedule.

Regluar Maintenance

Maintains fuel efficiency

Air Filter

One of the most common reasons for a drop in fuel efficiency is a dirty intake filter. This will decrease the amount of air entering the cylinders of the engine resulting in incomplete combustion. Check the filter regularly to ensure that it is clean.

Spark Plugs

Ensure your spark plugs are in good condition. Renew the plugs and wires at intervals specified by the owners manual. This will keep all cylinders firing properly resulting in higher efficiency.

Lube Oil

Change the lube oil at intervals specified by the owners manual. Use the recommended oil only especially in newer cars. Use of an engine flush before changing the oil will help to get rid of a lot of the dirt that collects in the engine that a normal oil change will not remove. On older engines it is advisable to use an oil treatment agent. This basically thickens the oil which creates a better seal between the piston and the liner, preventing blow past and consequent loss of combustion pressure, resulting in higher fuel efficiency.

Exhausts Alter Fuel Efficiency

Most cars have special sizes for the exhaust. When cars are reasonably old the silences has to be changed. The garage people always try to fit a size that they have in the garage it self. Which might not be the exact size recommended for the car. The wrong size a bigger or smaller silencer size effects on the MPG of the car and the HP of the car. It may be cheaper to put another size than your recommended size for your car but on the long run it will cost you in many ways, especially on fuel consumption. Always put the recommended size of the exhaust that is indicated in your car manual because the car company knows how to optimize the performance of your car.

How to Hook Up Computer to TV

How to Hook Up Computer to TV
People, these days, like to experiment a lot with electronic devices, especially the computer. They like attaching devices to enhance the machine or to simply enhance their experience.

One such common practice is hooking up computer to TV. People who know how to
hook up computer to their LCD TV, use it for various reasons.

They may want to show certain pictures or videos to the family, or watch a movie on a bigger screen, to play games, or simply might want to experience working on a large screen.

Whatever the reason, it is a very simple procedure for which you will require nothing more than a few cables and little bit of common sense. Steps on how to hook up computer to TV are discussed below.

How to Hook Up Computer to TV

To start hooking up computer to TV, you will first have to check the inputs your TV set has. VGA, DVI and HDMI are the most common inputs you will find. However, if your television set was purchased long time ago, you might have to arrange for a video card which will support your television connection. This is because, older TV sets work on analog signals. Check the audio/video inputs which will be present on the side of your television set.

The next thing you need to check for, is the kind of video output your computer is capable of giving. You can determine this by having a look at the video card installed in your computer. Almost all computers bought recently will support DVI. A high end computer will also support HMDI. In case you have an old TV set and you have removed your video card from the computer to attach it to the TV, the computer will then support whatever connection your TV set has.

You will now have to arrange for cables which you will require to connect your computer with the TV. You can buy these cables from any electronic store in your neighborhood or borrow it from a friend. Get cables which support your television connection. For video, if your TV set has S-video connection, purchase S-video cables. For audio, you may most probably, require a stereo-mini-to-RCA cable. If your television supports any other connections other than these, buy corresponding cables. Your electronic store person should help you with this.

Once you have the cables with you, simply connect them. Irrespective of the type of cable or connection you have, one end of the cable will have to be attached to your computer's port, while the other end will go into the TV set's input slot. For your PC, connect the audio cable to the audio card and video cable to the video card. The color of the cable will help you while connecting cables to your TV set. That's it, you now need to start both the electronic devices to check weather you have successfully hooked up your computer to the TV. If it's not, check your cable connections once more.

In case you have a laptop which you need to hook up with the HDTV, the procedure is almost similar. Find out the video input in your television set, buy the corresponding cables and connect them to both devices. Keep in mind that the audio cable needs to be inserted in the headphones slot on the laptop. If your laptop does not accept or recognize your television after connecting them, you may have to adjust display settings present in the control panel to allow two monitors. Read more on how to connect two computers together.

After learning how to hook up computer to TV, you should try it and treat yourself and others to bigger, better images on the screen.

The term itself implies initiating the development of muscle by natural means without taking the help of steroids and performance enhancing drugs.

The best way to acquire a great body is through hard work. There are no short cuts to achieving your goals. Taking the help of steroids and growth hormones can be fatal in the long run as these substances are known to destroy human organs such as the kidneys, liver etc. Natural bodybuilding not only enhances stamina but also makes you stronger and more disciplined. It should be adopted as a way of life and not just a sport.

* Supplements for natural bodybuilding

The last few years have seen the sport reaching new heights. The bodybuilding industry has become a multi million dollar market in the international arena and is likely to expand. It occupies one of the largest chunks for potential growth in the field of sports and is treated as a whole new segment in the category of health and fitness. New and high-tech products are entering the market on a daily basis which makes it difficult for one to distinguish between genuine products and fake ones.

The supplements market is no different. The wide range of products being introduced on a daily basis has made it difficult for one to differentiate between legal supplements and steroids. Moreover, the availability of pro-hormones and performance enhancing drugs that have entered the market pose an open threat to natural bodybuilding.

A number of enthusiasts determined to build their bodies naturally believe in adhering to a strict workout regime and diet comprising of well balanced foods and supplements like protein, creatine and I-glutamine. Come athletes prefer to develop natural bodies all the way. This means that they refrain from consuming food supplements as well.

* Identify your body type

It is important for you to identify your body type and its needs. All of us have different bodies and separate needs. One must opt for a training schedule and diet plan that is best suited to his/her body type. Caloric requirements and exercise results tend to be different in different individuals. Much is attributed to our genes and hereditary requirements. Thus, your goals should be realistic and attainable.

Before enrolling for a training program you should seek the help of a registered medical practitioner and coach in order to identify your body type. Yu must also make a note of any ailments or diseases you might be suffering from such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes etc. This will help the experts in chalking a great exercise, diet and recuperation plan for you keeping in mind your body’s specific needs.

The best way to develop a great body is to grow naturally. Using anabolic substances or performance enhancing drugs and hormones leads to a number of health problems in the long run.

* Contests

It is the dream of most bodybuilding enthusiasts to enter the arena someday and exhibit their well curved bodies nationally as well as internationally. Several organizations conduct natural bodybuilding contests for men and women. Some of them are even drug tested and meant for only those who have developed muscle naturally.

* Staying natural all the way

As a natural bodybuilder, it is essential for you to stick to your exercise regime and follow your diet plan and rest schedule with determination. You must devote yourself to the task and follow your trainer’s instructions carefully.

The key to developing a great body by natural means is persistence and consistency along with the hunger to succeed. In the absence of any of these, you are likely to end up getting nowhere. A lot of emphasis must be laid on the kind of diet you intake. You must consume four to six well balanced meals spaced out evenly throughout the day. Your diet must consist of enough proteins, carbohydrates and fat. You must lay additional emphasis on your diet plan than other bodybuilders as the development of your physique will entirely depend on that without the help of any growth enhancing substances.

The sport revolves around developing lean muscular mass and cutting down on as much weight as possible. This is possible only if you have proper insight on the sport and are willing to be committed towards achieving your goals.

Web users are impatient. Don't force visitors to wait through JavaScript-enabled introductions or QuickTime movies before they can enter your site. Always provide a "Skip" or "Stop" button when using these elements.

* Avoid Dead-End Pages

Always offer your customers a way out of a page. This could mean including a link to the main page on every page. Users are becoming increasingly accustomed to a navigation bar that links to all the sections of a site, and company logos that act as a navigation link to the home page. You can also offer text links on each page for going to "Top of page" or "Back."

* Facilitate Scanning

Study after study shows that most people don't read on the Web. They scan content for information that is relevant. Facilitate this process by breaking up text with headings and subheadings. Use text links that allow readers to jump from section to section. Don't expect people to scroll to find information on your site.

* Avoid Overusing Graphics, Animation, and Multimedia

If they don't add functionality, don't use graphics, animation, movies, sounds, and so on. Only use these features if they enhance your customers' experience. Product photos are often valuable additions to your site, but you might want to minimize the delays they could cause in load times by using thumbnail (small) images. You can link these thumbnail images to larger, more detailed images for customers who are interested in having a closer look. You can even include technology that allows viewers to zoom in on features or rotate the view of the product. Limit the number of images on each page for faster load times. If pages or files will take some time to download, it's best to forewarn your customers by noting the file size next to the link to them. If anything, users have less patience for state-of-the-art technology these days as the Web becomes dominated by new users, and the upgrade speeds for new browsers and plug-ins decline.

* Don't Assume That Everyone Uses the Same Browser

Avoid designing for a certain browser or trying to force a certain look. Some Web authors make extensive use of elaborate formatting tricks in a determined effort to coerce a client program into creating a specific visual rendering. These pages look good when viewed with the author's browser of choice, but look bad in most or all other browsers.

* Provide a Text Option

Browser preferences allow users to turn off graphics if they choose, and those who are using older browsers may not have the ability to view all images. So provide text links or alternative text tags in addition to graphics, including navigational buttons or bars.

* Delay Registration

There are many reasons for asking visitors to register at your Web site, but don't put your registration form on the first page. Show your content first; demonstrate that registration has its rewards before you ask visitors to spend their time on it.

* Make Your Forms Flexible

Online forms are often necessary and useful for placing an order or setting up accounts. But try to make your forms flexible by limiting the number of required fields. Also, make errors easy to find and correct. If users have incorrectly entered a phone number, they shouldn't need to complete the entire form again. Just have them correct the portion with the error, which should be highlighted to make the mistake obvious. Include a "Help" link in case customers run into problems while filling out a form. It's just not worthwhile to people to take time to figure out how to make something work on your site when there are 5 million other sites to visit.

* Avoid "Under Construction" Signs

By definition, Web documents change over time. Either your pages are useful to people (in which case you need not apologize for them) or they're not - in which case, you aren't ready to show them to the world and shouldn't be making them public.

* Provide a Clear Path for Customers to Make a Purchase

Display your products, descriptions, and prices prominently. If you're going to talk about a product your company sells, explain how to order it. Many Web sites are guilty of not fully disclosing product and pricing information or making it clear how to buy their products. Even if you are not yet prepared to process transactions online, you can let customers know how to buy your products by including a telephone number or retail location where they can complete a purchase, or a date when the product will become available online.

Healthy Summer Drinks and Snacks

Healthy Summer Drinks and Snacks

Summer is a time when we tend to drink a lot to replenish the liquid and
the needed body salts lost from sweating.

In addition we also tend to eat snacks and munchies to go with what we drink.
This can pose some serious problems for those who are trying to maintain their weight or even lose some.

Here are some great ideas for coolers to quench thirst and cool down your body temperature when it's blazing hot outside. They're easy to make and you don't have to search the aisles of an entire supermarket to find the ingredients. Chances are that most of them are already a part of your well-stocked kitchen and refrigerator.

Fruit Sorbet:

For sorbets, water-filled fruits such as watermelon, sweet lime, rose water and fruit sugar mix are good. All you have to do is puree the fruit, pour it into ice cream moulds and set in the freezer. Most citrus fruits are great for sorbets.

Smoothies:

Good smoothies can be made with bananas, mangoes, papayas and other pulpy fruits. You can have them with breakfast as accompaniments or as stand-alone breakfasts, especially if you're on the go. Simply blend the fruit with yogurt and a few raisins (like kishmish) and set. If you don't like them too cold then drink them straightaway.

Chilled fruit tea:

Fruit teas are healthy drink options in terms of calories. They're easily available in every departmental store but you can choose to make them at home. Just make a light brew of tea and allow it to cool. Add some fruit to it and chill in the refrigerator. Serve with crushed ice.

Lime Soda - the old favourite:

Nothing beats the amazing thirst quenching power of fresh lime soda with salt or sugar. The ingredients are available throughout the year, making it the most popular drink across cultures, states and climatic regions of the World. To make it at home, use fresh lime, club soda and add black salt, roasted cumin (jeera) powder and a few mint leaves.

Zingy Apple:

Another good summer drink is just plain apple juice with chilled soda. You can opt to use packaged apple juice or make it fresh at home. However, make sure that the packaged option has minimum or no added sugar. This will ensure that less unwanted calories enter your system.

Ice Cream:

A little low fat ice cream with plenty of fresh fruits is a good anytime-of-the-day snack. Avoid this as dessert after dinner and go easy on the ice cream even though it's low fat.

Sweets:

It's ok to eat a little sweet here and there, especially if they're made out of figs, dates, prunes, apricots or other dry fruits and nuts. They're good if not made out of white refined flour and ghee.

So make the best of summer by trying out all these drinks and snacks. They're healthy, they're easy to make and by Jove, you'll enjoy them 100%.

How Do I Know If My PC Is Infected With Spyware or Adware
Many people that are new to the Internet world are nervous about the potential of viruses, Spyware or Adware that can harm their computer, affect performance or make their very private information public to others.

Spyware programs can do a number of damaging things to your personal computer.

Spyware infects your pc and hides in the background and can do many nasty things to the performance of your system. It can also do harmful things to you such as send out your personal information, your every keystroke and photo that resides on your hard drive, watch your surfing habits and shopping habits and annoy you with annoying pop-ups filled with advertisements and even pornography.

If you are experiencing any unusual changes in your computer's performance or have any unusual new pop-ups, changes to your toolbars or new icons on your desktop, you should run a system scan to find out if you have Spyware. Products exist on the market to help you combat this problem. Be sure to install software that you know is credible. Downloading freeware can often result in further Spyware existing on your computer. Spyware, Adware and Malware companies frequently fool users into sending pop-ups telling them that there's a problem with their computer and this in fact is further spyware. These errors can open your system up to future further problems by fooling people into thinking they're downloading fixes when really further spyware is being downloaded.

Watch your system's performance and at the sign of any unusual activity, realize that you are probably infected. Do something as soon as possible to protect your privacy. These programs don't discriminate and can launch themselves when you or your family members sit in front of the computer. Pornographic pop-ups can turn up whether it's an adult or a child using the computer. Protect your pc.

Antivirus alone isn't enough to combat this problem. Spyware sneaks into your system via executable files that you don't need to do anything to launch. They can sneak in as attachments that you download or by many other means. They're harmful and annoying but you can protect your computer and your privacy with the right software. This software needs to have an auto update for spyware definitions as new spyware definitions are being added daily. So a spyware removal program is a great compliment to your existing anti-virus software.

Total Innovations, Inc. specializes in developing award winning software programs designed to solve computer users needs. The spyware removal software, http://www.emailspy.com & http://www.folderhider.com are a few of the most recent. See full details at: http://www.spyblaster.com

How should parents encourage their child to eat?

How should parents encourage their child to eat?

We all know that a healthy, varied diet is important for our child's growing needs. But what should you do if your child turns up his nose at just about everything.

Offer your child a wide variety of foods, he will get a balanced diet. It is better for him to eat something that he likes even if you disapprove of it than to eat nothing at all.
If your child refuses to eat fruits and vegetables, try to make them more tempting or more fun, but do not camouflage a detested food by mixing it with something else. The child should eat because he wants to and for no other reason. Encourage your child to feed himself.

- Serve food that is fresh and presented in an attractive way.

- Create a mealtime that is pleasant and relaxed.

- Talk about food; this may encourage a child to eat. Whenever possible, allow children to choose from one or two items on the menu (for example, a choice of peas or carrots for vegetables).

- Give your child the same food you eat.

You should be careful that the child is not overweight. Overweight kids are more likely to remain heavy as adults. This can lead to any number of health problems.

Your child should eat a more balanced diet. Start by setting a good example. If other members of your family commonly eats lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy products, your kids will learn to eat a good diet. Kids tend to copy their parents, so if you eat well, they are more likely to eat well too. Do not get angry and do not panic if the child refuses to eat. If you are concerned about your child's dietary intake, talk to your doctor or a dietician. Put less on your child's plate and praise your child for eating even a little. Try to make meals enjoyable and not just about eating. Limit snacks and drinks between meals. Drinking too much liquid can lessen your child's appetite. This will help ensure that your child is hungry enough to eat solid foods. Do not overfeed. Obesity in children is rarely recognised by parents and is a major health problem.

Children's tastes change. One day they will hate something and a month later they'll love it. Fussy eaters are often slow eaters who dawdle over their plate. It is pointless trying to hurry them. Do not lose your cool at dinner. Simply remove the uneaten food.

If you find that these techniques are not working, there are people who can help. A registered dietician who specialises in children's nutritional needs can assess your situation and provide strategies for dealing with a picky eater.

KIDO'Z Kid-Friendly Media Browser

KIDO'Z Kid-Friendly Media Browser

Tel Aviv, Israel-based KIDO'Z launch its custom media browser for kids. KIDO'Z is a pretty nifty Adobe AIR-powered desktop browser app that gives kids a safe and fun environment to play games, watch videos and/or visit pre-approved websites. When you first install the AIR app as a parent, you can configure the age and gender of your offspring as well as your location and preferred language (there are 17 available).

What's nice is that all these settings are taken into account at a content level, so KIDO'Z automatically caters the media it think is most suited for your kid(s) at first launch. As a parent you get password-protected access to an admin panel where you can add more or restrict access to certain content, set limited time frames for usage, and so on.

All content only shows up when a KIDO'Z team member approved the content beforehand, and to add more layers of security all scripts, file downloads, pop-ups and any other attempts that could lead to content which has not been approved, are thoroughly blocked.

To use the app, kids won't need to know how to read or write since obviously the whole UI is quite visual of nature, and very colorful to boot. The main menu of the KIDO'Z browser currently consists of three categories: games, videos and websites. All media can be opened and viewed inside the app's interface, and in fact kids can only leave the KIDO'Z environment by exiting the browser altogether.

KIDO'Z is currently completely free of charge, but the startup plans to start offering paid content packages in about three months, so parents can buy additional video material, games etc. for a couple of dollars per month.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Fully Featured Browser

Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 Fully Featured Browser

Microsoft demonstrated for the first time a preview of its new browser at PDC09, and on that occasion it presented the main features: which include support for hardware acceleration technologies Direct2D (Graphics Rendering) and DirectWrite ( font rendering) of Windows 7, a new and faster JavaScript engine, and full support for the CSS3 specification.

Microsoft could announce a beta of Internet Explorer 9 at the upcoming MIX 2010 conference. Microsoft will demonstrate the first beta version of Internet Explorer browser 9. Many expect that a new version of Internet Explorer will be more complete support for increasingly popular standards (HTML5, SVG and CSS 3).

A shift toward open Web standards for Internet Explorer would signal a major change for Microsoft; the company has been criticized in the past for not fully supporting modern, open Web standards. Microsoft's lack of Web standards support is a major factor in the rise of third-party browsers like Firefox, Chrome, and Opera, which feature a more compliant browsing experience, and better support for developers.

Microsoft currently offers toolkits that allow developers to create Web applications that store data both locally and on the Web, possibly with the intention of stoking interest in developing Web applications that operate in conjunction with Microsoft's own cloud computing platform.

Recall that Internet Explorer 8, released last year, does not support HTML5 video tag and therefore can not display video in HTML5 player, who recently appeared on YouTube and Vimeo. To circumvent this limitation is necessary to use a plugin Xiph.Org Ogg Codecs, which is still very modest.

10 Alkaline Foods and 10 Acid Foods for Perfect pH Balance

10 Alkaline Foods and 10 Acid Foods for Perfect pH Balance

Alkaline foods and pH balance are not a typical daily topic of conversation. However, people who cycle, run, hike, play tennis, or do any physical activity and want to perform at peak levels of fitness, have a choice to make.

It’s a choice many never consider, but one of the most important for overall health and fitness. It stares you right in the face every time you look at a menu or a shelf full of groceries.

The choice to consider is whether or not a food or beverage is going to help you maintain proper pH balance, or is it going to throw that delicate balance off and leave your body’s defenses vulnerable to health problems.

In order to maintain suitable pH balance, nutritionists suggest 80% of dietary intake should be alkaline and 20% acid foods. What exactly does that mean? It is a widely accepted nutrition fact that the alkaline or acid properties of foods and drinks come into play when your body burns them for fuel.

Consuming too many acid foods, drugs, tobacco, sodas, cocktails, and coffee causes the pH balance of the blood to become overly acidic, therefore, out of balance. It’s kind of like a swimming pool that has an acid pH level, and as any pool owner knows that can cause problems.

When we refer to ALKALINE FOODS or ACID FOODS here we’re talking about what happens to them in the bloodstream after they have been consumed. All foods and drinks leave either an alkaline ash or an acid ash in the blood, depending on what happens to them after your body has burned them for fuel. This is what effects blood pH balance, as well as urine or saliva pH balance, which can all be tested different ways.

Here are 10 types of acid foods that create an acid ash when metabolized:

1. White flour (breads, pastas)
2. Refined sugars
3. Artificial sweeteners
4. Dairy products
5. Processed corn and many grain products
6. Meats
7. Fish
8. Nuts (not all of them, but most)
9. Cranberries (surprising, but true, even some healthy fruits and vegetables can form an acid ash)
10. Coffee and sodas

Here are 10 good choices for alkaline foods to help maintain proper pH balance in the bloodstream:

1. Almonds (raw)
2. Apples
3. Avocados
4. Canteloupe
5. Leafy green lettuce and spinach
6. Citrus fruits
7. Broccoli
8. Cantaloupe
9. Carrots
10. Peas

A human being’s blood pH level is meant to stay around 7.4, so the body is constantly working to sustain that pH balance, no matter what you consume. When the body has to neutralize more acid than it is designed for, the best place to find a readily available supply of something alkaline enough to perform that function is in your bones. If the consumption of alkaline food and drinks is insufficient to do the job, then calcium from bones will be utilized in order to neutralize excess acid in the bloodstream.

It is a nutrition fact that too many acid foods such as meat, sugar, dairy, and refined flour products can cause a body’s pH balance to be too acidic. This can lead to all sorts of health problems, not the least of which is bone weakness.

A calcium supplement may help. However, if the calcium is not from a whole food source, the body does not absorb it as efficiently due to the lack of live enzymes, but more about that in a future article. The best whole food sources for calcium are broccoli, green leafy vegetables, and other alkaline foods with live enzymes.

The easiest way to consume the 80% alkaline foods you need each day is with concentrated health drinks that are heavily weighted to the alkaline side of the scale. Look for products made with real fruit and food grade herbs, because we know that most of those natural whole food ingredients are alkaline by nature. As you consume more alkaline foods and drinks for proper pH balance, your body will come into its own perfect balance and your overall health will reflect a positive change. Source : ezineall.com

Finding the Pet Adoption Portal for You

Finding the Pet Adoption Portal for You
For many people, finding an appropriate pet adoption portal is the only thing that stands in the way of them getting a new pet. They are the type of people who already want to get pets, love pets, want to get ready for caring for a pet if they aren't already, and are only looking for ways to get access to the pets they want to give homes to.

For those who are not keen on buying their pets from the pet store, their options for getting pets are threefold: through rescue organizations, through pet shelters, and through the internet.

Rescue organizations are run by volunteers who want to save pets from the threats they face when they are left to roam and fend for themselves in the cities. These rescue organizations aim to cut down on the near 70% of animals that get killed yearly due to harsh conditions and overpopulation. These rescue organizations help nurse these dogs and cats back to life, and help find suitable homes that will adopt them. Their team of expert volunteers and counsellors offer both compatibility assessment and adoption counselling to help facilitate the entire process.

These rescue organizations, because they prefer to be able to save as many animals as possible, would prefer individuals to return the pets they adopted if, for any reason, they feel it is not the right pet for them. Communicating your expectations clearly to the volunteers at the organization may help narrow the search for your perfect dog. These rescue organizations are home to about 21 to 30% purebreds each year, making them equally attractive places to search pets from.

Animal shelters provide the same sort of service to rescue organizations, because they want to provide animals all the care and support they need to survive. There are a huge number of animal shelters in existence, so its important to check whether the shelter you are approaching is good or bad. Good shelters provide animals with a clean, sanitary environment, and captivity conditions that will not constrict reasonable movement where they are kept. Some animal shelters also recommend that you get a pet that has already been previously sterilized.

This is to avoid instances when individuals want only one pet, and end up having one pet with 5 to 7 offspring. Shelters want to be able to get pets to care for off their hands and into better homes, and giving one for adoption in return for having to accept the 5 or 7 offspring it will be have is not commensurate. Ask about mandatory sterilization and whether its recommended for your pet. However, if you intend to grow a pet and its young through generations in the family, inform the shelter that you do not wish the pet sterilized before it is released to you.

The last portal you can make use of is the internet. With the advent of the growing consumer awareness through online information channels, the internet has made it easier to disseminate information and provide access to the same. There are websites online exclusively designed to accommodate those who wish to adopt pets.

The mechanism that is underlying the entire system is that the website accepts only listings for pets open for adoption and not any other listing. This helps keep the message that the facility is only to help make adoptions possible.

This pet adoption portal may prove to be effective especially for those who have very little time in their hands to visit shelters by themselves.
